We do not just own a pet, we make them our family! When it comes to going on holiday, we often consider taking our pets along with us as well. However, time and again we are disappointed due to the unavailability of pet-friendly hotels. Considering this emotional attachment, many hotels have come up with a pet-friendly idea. But how do we choose the right hotel when traveling with our pets?

Here are some tips for choosing pet-friendly hotels for your next vacation.

1. Double check the amenities
Before choosing pet-friendly hotels, one must be very sure of its availability in a specific location. Not every vacation spot has such hotels and you can’t expect hotels to provide pet allowance against their policies. Thus, owners should always double-check the availability of such hotels before planning holidays to any location.

2. Check what they offer
Even though many pet-friendly hotels offer an allowance, some may not provide a comfortable stay. In such cases, not only is it unsatisfactory for the owner but for the pets too as they can get irritable and hard to handle. Hence, owners are requested to confirm the offerings and facilities available at the hotel to ensure the comfort of their pets during their stay.

3. Look for the pet-friendly policy
The policies and the rules of pet-friendly hotels vary to a great extent. Where some have distinguished rooms for people/families traveling with pets, others may just allow them in the main premises. Besides, there are hotels who charge a separate fee for allowing pets to stay, whereas others just love to welcome pets along with the human members of the family. Thus, before making any booking, owners must read the pet policies clearly and only opt for the ones that suit their needs.

4. Choose wisely
Many hotels have come up with pet-tolerant facilities that are quite different from pet-friendly hotels. The former is only restricted to the allowance of pets, however, the latter have particular arrangements made for the comfort of the pets. Besides, some hotels may also have daycare and other facilities for pets while the owners try out some adventure activities. Also, the policies of both types of hotels vary to a great extent.

5. Look out for any exceptions
Among the pet-friendly hotels available, a number of them do not allow certain pets and often list such exceptions. Some may allow dogs and cats but exclude exotic breeds and species. This is either because of missing amenities to make their stay comfortable or due to restrictions in the policies. Hence, it is always safe for owners to verify the exceptions and only check-in to hotels that have suitable facilities.

Pet-friendly hotels have come to the rescue of innumerable families all across the world. They are especially important in the country, where some families/people travel with service pets.
